“Australia Day is so important to our community. It’s a day to stop and reflect on how lucky we are to live in this wonderful Country. We don’t know if Snowy River Shire will formally exist next year, so I am encouraging everyone to come along and make the 2016 event the biggest celebration we can”.

“Council extends its sincere appreciation to the Lions Club of Jindabyne who provides the “Breakfast in the Park” at the main ceremony held in Jindabyne each year and co-ordinates the event on the day. I also thank the Adaminaby community for holding a celebration at the Rotunda near the Big Trout in the afternoon on Australia Day” said Mayor John Cahill.

Snowy River Shire Council also participates in the Australia Day Ambassador Program where high achieving Australians are sent across the country to share the Australia Day spirit and participate in the celebrations.

“Council is very pleased to announce that Lindy Hou OAM, Paralympic Gold Medallist and World Champion, will be joining us in Snowy River Shire on Australia Day. Lindy has not only represented our Country but her life journey, being both challenging and rewarding is inspirational to all of us. Australia Day Ambassadors volunteer their time and we are extremely grateful that Lindy will be joining us in our celebrations on Australia Day” said Mayor John Cahill.
