Southern Cloud Memorial Weekend @Cooma

WHAT’S ON: This year marks 95 years since the Southern Cloud disappearance and crash in the Snowy Mountains on 21 March 1931, and almost 68 years since Tom Sonter, an SMHEA carpenter who was bush walking, discovered the wreck of the aircraft.

The memorial weekend, hosted by Cooma Lions Club and sponsored by Snowy Hydro Limited, will include:
  • flight of the replica Southern Cross (the Southern Cloud’s sister aircraft) from Albion Park to Cooma Airport on Saturday morning March 21
  • a remembrance service at the Southern Cloud Memorial
  • Saturday night dinner from 6.30pm at Cooma Car Club. A delicious three-course meal featuring personal recounts by Tom Sonter, who discovered the wreckage, and descendants of crew and passengers. There will also be a question and answer session with crew of the Southern Cross (the sister airplane.) Tickets from TryBooking
  • return flight of the Southern Cross to Albion Park on Sunday morning March 22
