Jindabyne was relocated to it’s current location in the 1960’s when the Snowy River was dammed as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. A handful of houses were moved before the area was flooded. The old town lies submerged under Lake Jindabyne and can occasionally be glimpsed when water levels are low. Waste Point Lookout on the Kosciuszko Road offers magnificent views of the Lake all year round.
Modern Jindabyne hosts a variety of activities across the four seasons and is on the doorstep of Kosciuszko National Park. The town is well serviced and has a wonderful variety of cafes, restaurants and retail stores. There is plenty of accommodation options to suit all budgets. Summer or Winter, Jindabyne is a top destination and is surrounded by many local attractions. Pop into the Snowy Region Visitors Centre for things to see and do and grab a coffee in the adjoining Parc Jindy. You can also visit Destination Jindabyne or Snowy Mountains.
