Touring - Cars, Bikes & Coaches

Touring with altitude There are a number of loops and trails across the Snowy Mountains and you can follow these to discover historic sites including the villages of Nimmitabel, Dalgety, Berridale and Adaminaby.  The Kosciuszko Alpine Way is one of Australia’s great touring routes.  It takes you through Jindabyne and threads its way through picturesque mountain valleys.  Then it takes you through Thredbo Village and Dead Horse Gap and passes close to Tom Groggin camping area.  The drive continues to Khancoban where you can take in dramatic views of both the mountains and Murray 1 and Murray 2 Power Stations tucked away in the gorges on the far side of the range. (National Park fees apply for vehicle access). This tour is suitable for cars, motorcyclists and cyclists.  The RMS does not recommend the road past Thredbo for Large Caravans and Articulated Vehicles. Motorcyclists are made welcome to Cooma and the region with spectacular rides around the rolling plains and open roads of the Monaro through to the winding and more challenging terrain to the west, east and south of Cooma.  Biker friendly cafes, accommodation and motorcycle services are available as well.  Bike riders also like to pass through the region on their annual pilgrimage to Phillip Island.
